When Moses and those slaves arrived at Mount Sinai in the desert, God gave them a plan for large formal meetings throughout the year to come together to worship Him. When they finally arrived in the Promised Land and quite some time later King David established Jerusalem as the nation's capital, three of those assemblies were compulsory for the men to attend in Jerusalem each year. The first one in the Jewish religious calendar was Passover. They remembered God's goodness to them for their deliverance from Egypt and brought gifts and sacrifices for sin to Him.

In Genesis Chapter 1:5 God speaks of the evening and the morning of the first day in that order. The Jewish day begins with the evening hours (at nightfall) and lasted until the end of the daylight hours (signified by nightfall of the next day). We Gentiles count our days from midnight to midnight.
